A collection of rants and facts about weird phobias.

Before i proceed with the blogpost, can I just say this bit? Hippopotomonstrosesquippedalio might seem like a harmless word but deep down, it shows the cruelty of humanity at least in my opinion. I didn't even bother to type it in this blog post, I just copied and pasted it in. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedalio is the fear of long words, some over achieving human somewhere decided that people who were terrified of long words should never be able to tell people about it.

My recent podcast episode called The Phobia Factor goes a little below the surface than this post will, so be sure to check it out here.

Phobias are reasons to feel like your life is going end when its not really going to.

Understandably anything in this world is capable of killing you and I mean anything, I've done a personal survey or research (or whatever you want to call it) on it. Think of the most harmless thing ever... Toilet paper? That sheet can choke you! Bubbles? Well I just thought about bubbles while I was typing this and I can't think of any way bubbles can kill you🤔 if you do know a way it can, be sure to let me know in the comment section👍. Anyway, back to the point... Almost anything can kill you but you have to be honest that being terrified of swallowing air is just plain ridiculous, this phobia is called Aerophobia. You were designed to breathe through your mouth! It's just Absurd that this phobia is not even rare. Well at least they won't be late for appointments unlike those with chronomentrophobia who are afraid of clocks, not the passage of time... No no no, but physical clocks themselves. What excuse would you give your boss for coming late?😂

As I mentioned in my podcast, tons of ridiculous phobias exist including;

  • Pogonophobia: the fear of beards

  • Papyrophobia: the fear of papers

  • Neophobia: the fear of anything new

  • Melophobia: the fear of music

  • Peladophobia: the fear of bald people

  • Logophobia: the fear of words

  • Bananaphobia: 😂 the fear of bananas (it's a shame these person won't know the joy behind the Despicable Me! movies)

In my podcast I mentioned what happens when we have phobias but I didn't mention what causes them and that's because it varies a whole lot. Even for specific phobias, which is a type of phobia, there's no specific (😉) cause for them (I mentioned the other types of phobias in episode 6). It could be caused by something as simple as a bad childhood experience or something as complicated as phobias passed down genetically from one's parents. That's not a problem for those with Gnosiophobia (A.K.A Epistemophobia) though, they don't even WANT to KNOW what causes theirs😅 they have a fear of knowledge (yeah it's a thing!).There's also another probable cause that some phobias were inherited from our ancient ancestors when some specific posed a threat to us, for example, [DISCLAIMER: THESE IMAGES MAY BE DISTURBING FOR SOME VIEWERS AND MAY TRIGGER PANIC ATTACKS==>>] stare at this set of 'images from google' for 10 seconds, have you done that? No? Click the link don't worry I'll wait.😉

If you felt uncomfortable from looking at those images you have a case of trypophobia, the fear of closely packed holes. It is still being debated if this is actually a phobia or in born defense mechanism against dangerous plants and animals that had those kinds of patterns.

My stomach was upside while i was trying to get you those images. I couldn't even post it here🤢

Some people are terrified of everything and I literally mean everything, it's called panophobia or omniphobia. Some are terrified of money, who can blame them though, it is the root of all evil isn't it? It is called chrematophobia. Speaking of money... None the less, phobias are definitely real and they affect people. Next time you're near someone who has a phobia or maybe you do have one yourself, look at the first image in this post and chant it as mantra over and over and over again as you breathe heavily. Also please don't be offended by my ranting take it as a challenge to fight your irrational fear because that's what it is... irrational.
